Women commonly request this procedure following childbirth and breastfeeding, or significant weight loss. Mastopexy (breast lift) simply means lifting of the breast. Mastopexy can also be combined with breast implants if a larger breast size is desired. This is called augmentation mastopexy.
Breast reduction surgery, also called reduction mammaplasty, is a surgical procedure in which the excess fat, glandular tissue and skin is removed to reduce the size and weight of the breasts.
Reduction of breast size can also be carried out on men. This procedure is called reduction of gynaecomastia and often involves removal of breast tissue and fat.
