Breast Self Examination And MammographyThere is no evidence to date that women with breast implants have a higher risk of getting breast cancer than women without implants. All women, regardless of whether or not breast implants are present, should practice breast self examination (BSE) and have annual clinical examinations with their GP. Following breast augmentation, you should practice BSE, and get to know how to distinguish the implant from your breast tissue. Brochures which explain how to perform BSE may be obtained from women’s health services, your local breast clinic or your GP.Women should also continue to have any routine mammograms. Mammography does not have any adverse effect on the implant; however it is important to be aware that breast implants do make a mammogram reading more difficult, as some of the breast tissue may be obscured by the presence of the implant. It is important you let your radiographer aware that you have breast implants before the procedure, as special techniques will need to be used to help show as much of your breast tissue as possible. » Click Here to go to the main Breast Augmentation page. |
