After The SurgeryHow should I care for myself at home?During the initial post operative healing phase, (2 weeks) Dr Cooper requires you to wear your post operative support bra for 24 hours a day. Following this period we recommend you wear a soft cup, supportive bra. This is important to ensure the capsule around the implant forms evenly giving a smooth appearance at the base of the breast. In the first few days your swelling will be at its worst and you will feel a little uncomfortable. During this time it is important you take you pain relief and anti inflammatory medications as directed.
We advise only gentle activity and arm movements in the first week. You are discouraged from performing house cleaning or other domestic duties within this time. Gentle daily exercise such as walking, is encouraged from day one. Ensure your diet and fluid intake is adequate as this is important for the healing process. You will need to attend an appointment in our rooms the week following your surgery for your post operative check up.Getting back to normal activityContrary to popular opinion you will be able to drive soon after your surgery, providing you are not taking any analgesics with a sedative effect. You are able to increase your level of activity slowly after day 3. You are advised not to return to strenuous activity, such as gym classes, for the first 10 to 14 days. It is important to avoid any heavy lifting for 4 to 6 weeks. Depending on the nature of your work, you could be back at work as early as day 3 if you have a mainly sedentary job; e.g. secretary. If your job is more physically demanding, a week off work is usually adequate. In the months following your surgery, you will be asked to return for at least one further check up. This appointment is important, as Dr Cooper will need to assess your long-term results and will be able to address any questions or concerns you may have. You will then be asked to return for an annual review. » Click Here to go to the main Breast Augmentation page. |
